Linear and non linear models on paddy crop in different agro climatic zones of Tamil Nadu

Author(s): Panchali Meena S and K Prabakaran

Abstract: Agriculture is the backbone of Indian nation. Agriculture in India and Tamil Nadu are unique in its character, with respect to climate and performance. The study focuses on to identify the model to predict the past, present and future performance of paddy crop in varied climatic regions. For this, five agro climatic zones and one district in each zone were purposively selected. Secondary data from the period 1990-1991 to 2009-2010 were used for this study. Various models like linear, log, quadratic, cubic, growth, exponential, logistic, compound, S curve, power and inverse models were fitted for the data. The best models were identified based on the highest R2 value and minimum error value. The results shows that the cubic model was found to be best for paddy crop in the selected districts.
