Determinents of performance of agricultural cooperative societies in south Gujarat

Abstract: The study is confined to the South Gujarat region of Gujarat state. The primary data regarding the performance of agricultural cooperative societies proportionately selected 25 Agricultural co-operative societies from South Gujarat. The Principal Component Analysis was used to analyze Determinants of performance co cooperative societies. The study is confined to South Gujarat because it has about 40 percent Agri. Marketing Cooperative Societies of the state. In this study, a total of five districts namely Surat, Tapi, Navsari, The Dangs and Valsad districts are selected purposively because of their good numbers of fruit and vegetable cooperative societies. Of the total Agricultural marketing cooperative societies i.e., 277, about 9 percent of them were selected proportionately from the selected districts. Factors like marketing infrastructural facilities of cooperatives and coverage are found to be the most important factors determining the performance of agricultural cooperatives. The size and coverage of the cooperative sector are also other important factors influencing financial performance.
