Abstract: The approaches in multidisciplinary research and development in mathematics emphasizes on general application with emphasis on mathematics research and development as the backbone for all other subjects. The classical educational paradigms may fall short in preparing for real-world problem-solving and logical thinking. The distinctions amongst various academic disciplines are got blurred in the dynamic field of study in the scientific field. This research emphasizes the transformative potential in mathematics research and development. In this paper, we make endeavours to study the major and crucial role playing of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and development that naturally stands for the betterment of Society in the 21st Century. The 21st Century has gone through the drastic positive changes in education system through the multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research approaches consequence upon the implementation of NEP-2020 in India. We first briefly go through the 20th Century multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary research and development in frontiers of mathematics. Then, we explore its upgrading by virtue of result of such modern approaches in mathematics education, research and development in the 21st Century India with collaborative, interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches in respect of NEP 2020. This review makes focus on reviewing the necessity and significance of promoting multidisciplinary education and research in higher educational institutes in India from the perspective of the NEP 2020.
