Corporate social responsibility and its impact on company performance: A case of reliance industries limited

Abstract: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a corporate philosophy that encourages companies to voluntarily work to conduct their operations in a way that improves rather than worsens society's well-being as well as the environment. The common CSR comprises of duties towards the employees (human resource development), the consumers (ethical marketing), and the environment protection. Giving back to society, taking part in charitable and activist causes, and creating social value are the major goals of CSR. In the study, the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and company performance (net profit) is analysed using correlation coefficient technique. The data was collected for the period 2017-18 to 2021-22. The findings concluded that reliance industries CSR spending and its net profit is positively correlated (p-value is 0.001).
