Author(s): CP Prakasam
Abstract: This research work examines the influence of confounding variable (third variable) on dependent and independent variable by applying Mantel-Haenszel test (MH). MH is the extension of 2x 2 chi square table with k confounding variable assuming cell counts in each table (strata) have hypergeometric distribution. Data were collected from The Longitudinal Ageing Study in India (LASI) to understand the influence of age factor of 72053 elderly as confounder influencing the Diabetics (effect) and Hypertension (cause) by calculating crude odds ratio and adjusted odds ratio by applying MH test. Results revealed that crude odds ratio was 5.1 and adjusted odds ratio was 4.86 with magnitude of confounding due to age was 4.96%.
