Abstract: Sugarcane cultivation is a crucial component of the agricultural landscape in Uttar Pradesh, contributing significantly to the state's rural economy and providing livelihood to a large number of farmers. The present study, titled “Socio-Economic Status and Constraint’s Faced by Sugarcane Growers in Sitapur District of Uttar Pradesh,” focuses on understanding the socio-economic profile of sugarcane farmers and the challenges they encounter in the Mahmudabad block of Sitapur district. The block was selected purposively, and five percent of the sugarcane-growing villages were chosen randomly. From these villages, ten percent of the sugarcane farmers were selected randomly as respondents for the study. The findings reveal that a majority of the respondents were marginal farmers, followed by small, semi-medium, medium, and large farmers. The age distribution showed a dominance of the young age group, followed by middle-aged and older aged farmers. In terms of education, 60.91% of the respondents were literate with varying levels of formal education, while 39.09% were illiterate. Most respondents lived in nuclear families, with a smaller proportion residing in joint families. A significant portion of the respondents (43.64%) had an annual income of less than ?1 lakh, indicating economic vulnerability. Male farmers were more actively engaged in sugarcane cultivation compared to females. The study also identified several key constraints affecting sugarcane production, such as unavailability of quality seeds, delayed payments from sugar mills, high input costs, labor shortages, and a lack of technical knowledge and extension services, all of which limit productivity and profitability for farmers in the region.
