A stochastic model of urban characterization of a select district in Kerala

Author(s): Dr. Prasanth CB and Ravikumar K

Abstract: Urbanization is a process in which more people move from rural areas to urban centers by anticipating better physical infrastructure and enhanced quality of life. Urban life is meant to easy accessibility to the modern life style and provide gleaming standard of living. A stochastic model is a tool for estimating probability distributions of potential outcomes by allowing for random variation in one or more inputs over time. A Markov chain is a stochastic model describing a sequence of possible events in which the probability of each event depends only on the state attained in the previous event. Here a stochastic model of urban characterization of a select district, Ernakulum in Kerala is analyzed by considering 56 urban places in the district through different time points.
